New Rescues!

When we saw Pushkin hiding from a large group of community dogs... when a tourist called found Vicky who was covered in ticks running along the railroad tracks… when Jenny showed up at a volunteer’s door… How could we say no?

Meet the newest shelter residents below. We are still getting to know them so keep an eye on our website and social media for more details. All these dogs will get a thorough medical exam, deworming treatment, vaccinations, and spay/neuter surgeries. If you can, please help support the rescue effort and cover their vet bills here.

Water!

It’s hard to believe but the Sochi Dogs shelter has been around 7 years! Things are getting old so in between rescuing dogs we’ve also been making some major shelter improvements. This Spring we fixed the running water — an essential when you have 60 dogs! The water comes to the shelter from a well that’s 262 feet underground. This past winter parts of the water system kept breaking leaving the shelter with no running water for days. We replaced the two pumps, electrical wiring, and the meter. While it may not seem like a big change, we are all very excited about the new improvements, especially our shelter dogs who know that running water means pool time!

Remembering Polina

Today we are remembering Polina, a Sochi Dogs Sanctuary resident who passed away this week.

Before Polina came to us she had lived her entire life tied up to a chain. We begged to buy her out and in 2018 the people who had her finally agreed. When she got to the shelter, Polina absolutely craved affection. She had a special way of rubbing her nose into your leg so you had to give her pets. She also loved her freedom —running around in the fields with the other dogs.
