Meet Zoysia, our newest rescue!

We’d known Zoysia as a community dog for some time now. She lived by a garbage dump and occasionally made her way to a nearby park to befriend the kids at the playground. Our team would feed her regularly, until a few weeks ago when she disappeared. We had been worried that something happened to her, so when she suddenly returned to her usual spot we knew we couldn’t leave her again. Zoysia has been checked out by our vet, spayed, and she is loving her new life at the shelter.

Our US adoption branch is closed due to a CDC import ban so please help spread the word about Sochi Dogs in the EU and Canada. If we can place dogs in loving homes we can rescue more dogs like Zoysia. Share this post!

2021 Sochi Dogs Reunion

After the pandemic canceled our 2020 reunion and thunderstorms threatened our 2021 reunion, we were thrilled to see our community together again! Sochi dogs and their families traveled from all corners of the tri-state area to see their old shelter pals.

Thank you to Yvonne Thompson from Alaska for donating to gorgeous quilts, Santa Izzy from the North Pole for donating his time, and incredible photographer Lisa Ward from NJ for donating to the Sochi Dogs Raffle.

For the first time this year we had a craft market with cards and treats from Romy William from Virginia, and felt dog sculptures from Ann Osborne and custom block prints from Leah Hunt.

Sochi Dog Families

We love seeing dogs and their families at the reunion! A recent ban on the importation of dogs from 113 countries by the CDC has made it impossible for us to find new adopters in the US. Unless its lifted, next year’s reunion won’t have photos of new happy endings.

There are only two more flights left from the Sochi shelter to the US until the CDC Ban goes into effect which means family photos like these will not be possible for adopters in the US. Please contact the CDC today to speak out against the ban!

Speak up For Rescue Dogs

On June 14, the CDC announced a ban on the importation of dogs from 113 countries that are considered to be at high-risk for rabies. This sweeping ban came as a shock to everyone in the rescue community!

Sochi Dogs and a coalition of responsible international non-profit organizations are looking to work with the CDC to support their work of protecting the US from rabies while still allowing us to continue our lifesaving work of rescuing k-9s in need

I am reaching out to express my concern about the CDC’s emergency rule to ban the importation of dogs from 113 high-risk rabies. While I understand and appreciate the CDC’s concern for public safety when it comes to rabies, there are more narrowly tailored ways to (1) achieve the CDC’s stated goal of protecting public safety, and (2) ensure the safety of the dogs who have been denied entry into the United States. There are responsible and legitimate 501(c)(3) rescues who have the same goals as the CDC and can work with the CDC to find solutions that will ensure that the dogs who come into the United States have appropriate documentation of their age and vaccination status BEFORE they board a flight to the United States.

Working collaboratively with those in the rescue industry would allow the CDC to achieve its stated goal of ensuring public safety without causing rescues all over the world to cease lifesaving rescue missions to save dogs all over the world.
