Shantie's Story

Little Shantie was a street dog living near a coal mine on the outskirts of Konstantinovka in the Donetsk region. The workers there knew her well and fed her. Although she lived on the streets, she managed to get by fairly well.

One day, Shantie's life changed dramatically when part of the mine collapsed, and she was struck by falling debris. The incredible team from the Dnipro shelter managed to bring her in and provide a full diagnosis, which revealed that her spine was broken, and she would no longer be able to walk.
This tragic event happened in October 2023.

Since then, Shantie has been living in the overcrowded Dnipro shelter, which is currently housing many dogs evacuated from the war zone.

On some lucky days, volunteers take her outside to lie on the grass or explore the area in a wheeled stroller, which brings her so much joy.

Right now, Shantie is sharing a small kennel with another disabled dog, Kuzma. They’ve become friends, offering each other comfort in their shared space. However, Kuzma will soon be leaving for a new home, as a kind family has decided to adopt him.

While we’re thrilled for Kuzma, we’re very eager to find a better place for Shantie as well.
With winter approaching, finding her a warmer and more comfortable space is even more important.

We are searching for a home for Shantie in any European country, where she can be loved, and cared for, and have a warm place to stay during the winter and grass to enjoy in the summer. Shantie is around 3 years old and weighs about 30 lbs. She’s incredibly loving and intelligent. We strongly believe that with the right environment, she can still live a happy and fulfilling life.
